Patrickt, you are achieving a new low on this thread, as this is the first time I have ever seen any member on any car forum single-handedly try to kill a group purchase. You are evil, dude, simply evil, and I hope that Rodney and the rest are hugely successful with this process. I don't need to have a dog in this show to at least wish them success on something that a lot of parties have shown interest in (and probably many that don't post on CC). Go unzip your car cocoon and take the bitterness meter down a couple notches, would ya?!?

He has a quote from one casting company and awaiting another.

BTW, what does this mean? They should have the process down, since they've making wheels for at least 50 years.

What colors and coatings are there or will there be? Of course, besides the Dow light gold.

rodneym 01-21-2011 05:07 PM

Rodknock,

The coatings (Richard even called it pickling once) has apparently changed over the years. I don't know the details but he isn't using the old stuff, for whatever reason. I'm speculating here but old processes could possibly be banned, not available or simply not be the best solution anymore. Or maybe he likes torturing us? :(

So far there has only been mention of gold and 'none' (special request) for colors. Any other color requests or should I publish a Pantone list? ;)

WARNING - Special Requests of any type may have an impact on lead times and costs. Plus Shipping and Handling. Local taxes may apply. Batteries not included (that one was for patrickt's LED brakelights).

rodneym 01-21-2011 05:10 PM

BTW, post #1 in this thread still holds up pretty well. :)

RodKnock 01-21-2011 05:17 PM

How about this color:

rodneym 01-21-2011 05:20 PM

Be careful what you wish for...that's not just a color. %/

BTW, that a man's Cobra. Down and dirty.

RodKnock 01-21-2011 05:21 PM

Yep, I know, but what a nice look.

But for the fact that you're listed as #1. Otherwise, it works for me.

My bad. I meant to say that person #1 on the list is holding up pretty well.

I know what you're implying, but....:p
Honestly, I have a great affinity for things that are well used. Not abused, mind you.
It sort of reminds me of Clapton's strat, 'Blackie'.
IMO, inanimate objects only develop character through use and time. They had nothing to do with their own design but they were there every step of the way for it's journey. And sometimes it shows in just the right ways.

Back to your original comment...

Any movement Rod?

You mean besides the one I had this morning.

I'd bet that Halibrand's answer will be that it's still out to bid on the manufacturing of wheels. Finding and using the lowest bidder always makes me worry a little.

rodneym 01-31-2011 10:50 AM

No news since the 20th.
I'll contact Richard and see if we've made any progress.

Using the lowest bidder has gotten us to the moon.

Rodknock, are you in contact with Richard?

Not at all. I'm letting you lead the charge. He doesn't need multiple people sending him emails or calling him.

I tried being the pest for 2-3 years. It's definitely your turn, plus you seemed to have gotten farther along with him than I.

rodneym 01-31-2011 11:05 AM

Got it.
When ERAChas said 'Rod', I didn't know which one of us he meant.
Either the Rodney with the Kirkham who wants the magnesium Halibrands or the Rodney in the Kirkham who want magnesium Halibrands.
:)

I'll keep posting.
