Now I'm thinking about powdercoating the entire wheel a black satin including the outer lip like "Jeffy" did with his ERA FIA wheels. I love that look.
|
Be advised all-my experience is that powdercoating will make them easier to clean brake dust but will not stop the gray from coming. Dow 7 or untreated will turn to gray under any coating. It's a function of the brake and wheel bearing heat.

Rodknock - As far as the terminology is concerned, I'm pretty sure they're both on the same page. When Fran said "Dow 7 only" to me, he definitely meant no powdercoating colors.
ERAChas - I'm pretty sure Fran left out the logos for 'obvious' reasons. |

I forgot my plan. Which was, once the Trigo's come off, then I may do that to the Trigo's if and when I get bored. **) Besides all the other nonsense, at some point, when these wheels do get installed, it will necessitate the purchase of some new Avon's. |

Per the M&A Website:
"Magnesium has many benefits over aluminum. IT IS 36% LIGHTER THAN ALUMINUM MAGNESIUM HAS EXCELLENT MECHANICAL PROPERTIES WITH NEWER HIGH PURITY ALLOYS THAT ARE NOW AVAILABLE, CORROSION IS ALMOST NON-EXISTANT WE CAN SUPPLY FINISHED CASTINGS WITH A DOW 1 LIGHT GOLD PROTECTION FINISH or DOW 9 OPTICAL BLACK FINISH I kinda wish I could see the "optical black" finish, but likely will go with the "light gold." Corrosion is almost non-existent? |

One of the few genuine 'Laugh Out Louds' on this site. Rodknock - Just how old is your KMP and how many miles do you have? Why do you have such a rep? |
The wheels do corrode. Isn't that the look you guys are after anyways? If you want shiny wheels, you are much better off with aluminum with polished lips.
|
OK here's a guy with M&A's modern miracle mag. Now do you believe???
Thanks Mike! |

I drive it everyday to work, I rebuild my own engines and transmissions and I did and do all the work myself. I also drag race my Kirkham every Wednesday night at Infineon Raceway. |

I think you have paper cut-outs of hands and feet to remind you where they go to operate it... |

It took me a couple months to figure out that the fuel pressue switch is right underneath the fuel pressure gauge and that the battery switch is actually BEHIND me. You know.....I always abide by the first rule of Italian driving: |
Well, we're screaming towards the end of February already. I have tried to make contact with Richard (Halibrand) twice this week...and failed.
Fran said he was taking 'discount' pricing of $4,000 per set if ordered by the end of this month. Fran, are you out there? There's been talk of a person or two from our list going with Fran and it looks like I will too. I'll contact Fran and post the latest. Our trek may have taken a left turn but we may get there. ;) |
You really need to call him if you want wheels. After all of the endless discussion of these wheels very few people have called him.

And FYI, I really want mags. He's still figuring things out. Please remember, this thread started because both Fran and Halibrand said they were gonna make mags in the first quarter of this year. Fran disappeared (and popped back in) and Halibrand has needed some.... hand holding. It was never my intention for this to be a big thread. Considering how big it got, and how few will actually buy mags............... |
For the record, I called Fran too. I could be DWIP (Dead Wrong In Public), but Fran may or may not produce wheels. It's not a certainty. From his earlier posting(s), he needs 25 sets to be ordered and from the sound of it, and from Cobra Pack's post above, he hasn't reached 25 sets.
It's a bad economy, very few Cobra consumers see any advantage with the magnesium (over the aluminum wheel) and with the price about $1,000 per wheel, buyers are few and far between. I understand that. There's always the used mag wheel market, but you just have to be willing to put up with stripping off old and poor paint jobs and restoring them to as new condition. |
