Meat, beans, onions, chili. Mix in a pot and cook slowly. Add Fresno and Serrano chilis to taste. Serve with my darlin's cornbread and it's gonna be good.

I make good chili but what Danr gave me last Sunday put mine in the ditch. It was OUTSTANDING! I did add a little ground Tepin since I'm a little out there for heat, but I did taste it before firing it up and it already had a nice subtle burn going on which was probably just right for most people.

Mikiec, this is do-able. Do we want a winter event or other time of year ? Will it be possible to do it at a home or will a larger kitchen be necessary ? Lots of possibilities. I'd guess that 8 to 10 guys would participate. I'd suggest that we have an "attendance fee" of $5 and give that to the winner. Or split it between the winner and the home owner / host. There are probably lots of ideas out there.

Since most of the chili recipes are secret, everyone should make the chili at home and bring it prepared and in a crock pot, ready for sampling. The entrants should each contribute a fee for participation and the winner take all. It may be something to consider for the Christmas Party. Since the participants can't be judges, a panel of wives or non-contestant members should be selected as judges. Possibly 5 to 7 folks (an odd number to preclude a tie). They should be aware that this is a CHILI tasting event and the possibility/probability of spicey hot is likely. So no WIMPS! It would be a great event to invite other clubs to elect thier idividual champions and perhaps hold a Car Club Chili Cook-off to benefit charity. This could become an annual event.

Dan, those are some good ideas. I would not suggest that it be with the Christmas party - it would get a bit unbreathable and "mistakes" could happen during the heated auction. If the chili is really good, then perhaps a challenge to the local Street Rod Association, Corvette Club, etc,. The firemen are always having this type of event, maybe we could suggest it to the Globe Fire Dept. and have a cook-off during the annual car show that they host.

Great suggestion John. What about it fellas? Is there any support out there for this activity? Perhaps we could all chip in $20 for the contest and split the proceeds with the Globe FD? Perhaps we buy a trophy and the winner gets the trophy and the dollars go to the Globe FD? There are all kinds of possibilities.

Dan - I like your recipe - jaja - "meat, beans, chili, pot, cook". Totally unlike any other one made. Seriously - a good chili is to be respected and cherished - whatever your secret ingredients might be. Congratulations for genuine dedication to one of the things that makes life really enjoyable. A cobra with a motor cooling after a days run, a delicious, spicy chili, and your favorite beverage (make mine a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale). Have a great weekend!!

Dan et all, I just received info on the Globe Car Show, It is Friday evening, March 15th, and Saturday, March 16th. The costs is $35 which includes the Friday evening meal, Saturday breakfast and lunch. Dan, do you want to carry the ball and contact the Globe folks, David at 928-200-0011 or Al at 928-200-2626. OR, should we do a pratice run between now and then and have a "Chili Cook-off" among the local guys ?

John, This was your idea.. I'd hate to go to the Globe FD and only have 3 guys show up for the cook off.. March 15 isn't far off. If we are going to pull this together, we need to get cooking.. (Pun intended!).. What's the best way to solicite participation among the Cobrites?

WOW, 1st) we need a place to host our own
"cook off". I'd guess that we'd need two four burner stoves or an inside one of four burners and an outside one of two or three burners. 2nd) we need a date. 3rd) we need a small committee, two or three people, to continue the organization and follow thru. 4th) an entry fee is necessary as well as an eating (judging) fee. Assuming each entrant spends $20 to get in and each person (judge) pays $5 to participate. The monies should be split about 80 -20 to the winner and host homeowner. 5th) any spirits will be BYOB. 6th) float a thread here on Clubcobra and FFcars to find out if there is really an interest in doing it. 7th) determine a minumin number of cookers ( entrants) to make it worth while. Hopefully Dan you'll have some suggestions. Also let's hear from others, is this worth doing ?
