Toploader's buttoned up...

And the 360 is down to the short block. Absolutely beautiful. C7ME-A block, standard bore.

Brent I'll buy you a new set of cast pistons to go along with that new cam....
that will help keep the cost of your new engine down and you possibly buy one of those aluminun cars to put your new motor in........

Bob, it would take more than the cost of a set of pistons to get me into an aluminum car....LOL

I saw that Hurricane on Ebay.....I wish I still had that money tree growing in the backyard....

I don't think I could trust a cast piston at the horsepower and rpm levels that I'll be turning with this engine. It will have to be forged...

Just curious Brent...

Did you inspect the area around that aftermarket expansion freeze plug in the 360 block? I've seen those used trying to reseal some freeze damage. Sometimes it's accompanied by a hair line crack radiating from the hole. I don't know that I wouldn't hit it with a rotary wire brush and do a little dye penetrant check. I'm sure you've considered all that though...

Questions on the block...

Are you going to cross-bolt the block? The 360s didn't have the HD block webbing like a few of the 390 GTs, 428 service blocks and the 428 solid flat-tappet motors. All the 360s were hydraulic flat tappet motors. Since you're going to be twisting this pretty hard aren't you a tad worried about bottom end stability? Hasn't someone come up with a FE bottom girdle? I seem to recall it required machining the tops of the main caps.

Dave,

That's as far as I've got with stripping the engine down. It will surely be magged as I've seen cracks in those areas too.

As far as the bottom end, I haven't made up my mind yet. It may get a set of Pro-Gram caps. It will see some revs, but not on a regular basis like a drag or road race engine.

There are main girdles available for the FE...they use the oil pan flange as well to pull it all together.

I would love to have been a fly on the wall during that conversation...

So what are you going to do when you get it? Just take random pictures of it so that you can prove that you know what a cam looks like?

It was uneventful; I have ordered cams before.

here we go with the dog model again......
makeing your animal pose with car parts is just plain animal abuse......
Brent, I'm not asking this question to be a smart a$$ but did Ford use some
other type of piston other than cast in their Hi-Po engines of the 60's ???

Yes, factory pistons were cast aluminum.

It would be hard to find a cast piston with floating wrist pins setup for a 6.700" BBC rod and a 4.250" stroke.

I'm starting to rethink the wisdom of my decision as well....

On the other hand, the specs are right here in the thread so there's not anything more to say....

In Die Hard 4, they called it a "fire sale." Everything is shut down. Maybe "they" can specifically target one house and one office.
