Hi Mike.

Would you kindly advise the cobra community where you sourced these good looking seats by providing their web site address?

Is the shell made in aluminium?

Price and avaliabilty would be appreciated.

When I built my Locost 7 I was going to instal alumunium seats and there is a manufacturer located in Campbellfied who will specifically custom make seats to suit narrow bodied cars like the Cobra,Locost and Super modified Sprint Cars.

The gentleman's name is Bob Pascoe but his son does all the welding etc as Bob has sustained some head injury in racing car accident several years back.

I got them through VPW in Epping. They are the local Kirkey dealer. They are available in various widths to suit your car (Or your behind).

The price from VPW was pretty good but I had to wait 6 months for them to arrive. Lots of delays for them getting them since they are made in Canada and then shipped to LA before going on a ship to Melbourne.

All that being said... I don't know if they will be ADR Legal once the new head rest is in place. But at least being aluminium there are some easy options to reinforce them or modify them.

Looks like a Kirkey to me...

I have one of their "Road/Race" versions in my car. You can get a variety of widths and angles and configurations.....I love mine and they really HOLD you in tight!

I doubt they would be ADR though for road driven applications...

I was suprised how comfortable it is despite being made from aluminum and only having a basic vinyl cover. I think they've got the shape pretty spot on. I reckon it should keep me glued in place OK for track days.

It's definitely not ADR legal without some mods but my point was that being aluminium it's easy enough to weld headrest mounts or whatever to it to make it the right height etc. It would probably still need to be tested after the fact.

Lots of accessories for these seats too. With mine I even squeezed the side wings in to keep me even more snug.....and to keep out the larger test pilots!

Hi Guys,
My name is Stefan and I supply seats to the classic car market since 2003 and just got an email yesterday about the concerns about ADR XX/XX.
So if I understand it correctly- forgive I am a German living in Texas which explains some....
Seats have to be min 850 mm from base to to of the headrest, there can not be more space between the headrest and seat max 60 mm, headrest have to be min 170 mm wide and min 115 mm tall.
Am I so far correct- tried to access the Australian Gov site but got always blocked out- who wants a German Texan....
All seats have to go through a certification/approval test ?
So far we have seats that exceed the 850 mm, headrests are 250 mm wide and 140 mm tall.
So how can we help ?
We have supplied many customers in Australia, but mostly classic cars that refitted our seats into their cars, or does that rule also affect older cars after restorations.?
Thank you all for the input.I had to come up here in the US with a few ideas as they wanted to ban classic seats from drivers ed or clubracing when used with 5 points.

Tenrocca do you have any more detailed measurements? Need to know the width at the back of the seat, 530mm is nowhere near close to fitting, you need something more like ~430mm at the rear of the base (for a CR)

Ill see what I can do - but that 530 is the very widest point on the base (prob side bolsters). I know the mach 1 seat tapers significantly towards the back (and is an easy\perfect fit). Some seats that come up as bigger on than these on the dimension drawing have been squeezed in in the past so well worth investigating. Ill keep you posted.

Hi Mike,

I just bought some of those Kirkey Vintage seats too, tho I got mine via Rocket. Took about 3 months and price was reasonable.

I want to do something similar with the headrests - what actual headrest unit are you thinking of adapting to these seats. I have been looking around for a thin unit (to match the thin seats) but no luck as yet.

Hi,

I've tried to post this before, but had some issues, so I hope this doesn't double post.

Anyhow, on Oz Clubbies there is a thread in the technical discussion section about ADR 3/03 seats, the upshot is that there is a manufacturer of compliant seats with a base of 400mm, and they will be available soon.

Nothing off the shelf. I was just going to make an upright from a couple of lengths of stainless rod and then weld on stainless plate for the head rest section. I'll then pad that wth foam and get it trimmed the same as the seat.

The mounts on the back of the seat will be a couple of sockets for the rods to go into. Probably retained with a couple of grub screws.
