Sorry I should have added that the seats Alan is complying look a bit like the Tillet seats that Caterham use so probably nothing like the look you want if you are chasing a traditional low back seat look.

Guys despite my reading of the limited usefullness now of MX5 seats I may as well flag the availability of a pair of seats I have to now sell.

I shrank the width of my standard MX5 seats by 50mm to better getting into the G-Force cockpit but I still couldn't reduce the seating height because of the way the cockpit is constructed.

So if anyone is interested in a couple of comfortable leather seats with the original sliders PM me please.

I am looking to go with a pair of Marty Govett's fabricated seats, and having tested the seating position it is a far improvement height wise. A few in build minor tweaks will really have the seats fit the G-Force cockpit nicely.

I am hoping I can get the seats upholstered in a way that they take on a more traditional look. Yet to confirm this though.

Saw your car down there on Saturday Slowy. Soft top bows look great and the surface rust had fallen off your roll bars (freshly linished). Have you spoken to anyone about upholstering Marty's seats?

Yes got the missus down there last night to test Marty's seat for fit and we have come to the conclusion best fit is with his offerings over the MX5 seats sadly.

Anyway no I hadn't even started to think about upholstery but we will have whomever do the whole car. Have you someone you can suggest?

The roll bars were simply subjected to a light grade of fine paper on a polisher but Marty also got me to use a flapper to grind down his third leg welds to smooth it all out.

Once the third leg chassis attachments are made the whole lot can go to the chromers. They are going to do the finishing polish and chroming.

Does anyone know exactly how the proceedings are for the ADR approval.Most of our seats are steel tube frames with welded mounting points and in the Fiberglass seats we make big plates that are laminated into the ready made shell for ridgidy.Even if we have adjusters at the side we have an additional steel framing inside that is laminated to the seat back and bottom.How can we have these approved by the ADR ? Again we are in the US and not familiar with the proceedings and in's down under,sorry.

It appears that "NO ONE" in the community down under has provided any guidance to the procedure in getting your seats certified.

I know of two manufacturers that manufacture the cobra seats in Victoria.

One is located in Eltham Victoria and the other only makes the seat frame all purportedly comply with the ADR 3-03 seat rule.

Both are listed in this thread and for your information are Classic Interiors and Kenmer Engineering .

Email and phone numbers are available.

Both use their own mechanical engineer

Classic Seat Pricing is through the STRATOSPHERE and you have to work in A GOLD MINE.

I could import AC Cobra Traditional/Classic seats that meet IVA rules far cheaper from UK than buying locally.

I could suggest Enkelmans who could gladly assist with your problem.

Your thumb nail photos are GREAT and you will note that Classic Interior seats and the Kenmer Seat frame are ALL STEEL.

We need competition and I hope you can gain the necessary paper approved for export.

The process is:
Obtain a copy of ADR3/03 from the department of transport website (or equiv un reg)
Commission a lab certified for ISO17025 or similar to conduct the tests specified in the ADR (we call it NATA accreditation here).
Draw up the seat showing dimensions meet ADR 3/03.
Sell the seats as ADR3/03 compliant with a copy of the lab test results and drawings.
The local engineer will do the rest.

Note: testing doesn't have to be in Australia. ISO17025 is an international standard so will be recognised here.

Nice effort Zedn, but the drawings and dimensions are actually irrelevant and you actually need a special jig to measure the seats correctly to get the critical height measurement.

Seats that pass ADR 3/03 will have the required dimensions.

So this is what you want with your seats:

A copy of the ADR 3/03 certification
A statement from the seat manufacturer
And preferably identification on the seat (brand & model) that matches the ADR 3/03 certification

I just bought a set of Ac Cobra Seats previously fitted to a DAX cobra for a VERY GOOD price locally .
These seats I believe were manufactured by interior seating out or UK and they have extendable headrests.
You have to be patitent and these seats are available in Australia.
They fit PERFECTLY and they are made in the traditional way with a steel frame etc.
Now I got a choice of three seats which could be used .
I SAVED A BUNDLE COMPARED TO WHAT TRIMMERS WANT LOCALLY
PICS WILL BE DOWNLOADED LATER.

Dimensions are required other than height. H point dummy is a test apparatus in the ADR.

Zedn, I was not indicating a compliance procedure, just what you need if you are purchasing ADR 3/03 seats. And what I have indicated is all you need, the certificate will contain all the data to satisfy the requirements.

I'm bringing my Dax 427 into SA in a couple of months time ... I thought the car's sidepipes and noise was going to be my biggest problem, but this thread has me worried! I have the Dax highbacks discussed earlier in the thread (the ugly ones ... you can see them in my photos) and they went through UK IVA without problem. I expect to have to change a lot of things to meet ADR's and will use an Engineer to get things right before it goes for inspection.

I'll let the forum know how it goes at Regency.

DHS, finding seat frames is not a problem. Finding frames that comply with the newer ADR 3/03 standard is. Not sure if Python(George) have done anything in that regard.

I'm getting a set of Kenmer's new Cobra seats for my car next week. Marty Govert does some of the ADR testing for engineers down here in Melbourne and has the correct jig, so there's another option for people looking for ADR approved seats. I'll post some photos next week.
