Default The Smackdown in Maryland

Folks,
First and foremost thank you to Tommy Goldstein from the Capitol Area Cobra Club for his generous offer to allow us to run our cars on his dime. A real gentleman. Videos are in HD, use the highest setting on your player.
Now.....
Let it be said, the Ferrari is wicked, putting in pass after pass in the low 11's, in automatic mode. That thing is bad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZAY2eL9A2o

After too many passes to count the smackdown started.....(note the dark coloration at the rear of Blitz's pants. In addition, late in the video, he is seen rumaging through the trash can for time slips to destroy).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30APs..._order&list=UL

More smackdown with Blitz showing his underbelly.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z84-j...=22&playnext=1

Two CACC small block cars, one a 406 Autocross/road race car on street tires got a 12 flat and the other a 427 Roush small block cracked off a 12.2. Impressive boys.
On the negitive side my BB with drag radials launched great but then lunched the clutch.

Thanks again to Tommy Goldstein for his generosity.

I don't care what tire Blitz uses, bet the Ferrari to take all 3.

Don -- Yeah, I consistently had that R&T speed (128.5) beat. So if I can get the traction in warmer weather on a treated track, I should be able to beat 11.0.

Warmer weather and higher elevation equals less horsepower.

You may not run as fast.

How about a compromise?

What about Avon CR6ZZ tires? Not slicks, DOT legal, V-rated or other alternative (M/T's, etc.).

Maybe compared to road race slicks, but Avons aren't drag slicks by any means. I'm not sure the Avons would give Blitz that much more traction in a drag situation, but they are probably the best overall compromise. The Avons are made as an all around use very high performance street tire, road coarse, high speed, etc, so I guess from that perspective they were built for the same intended usage as the tires on your 458. It seems quite improper to force Blitz to use real crappy tires.

The Avons would be a good choice for Blitz since he actually has his car set up for road racing. After this brief fling with drag racing, he can go back to road racing and use the Avons for their intended purpose.

I'm only trying to help. There appears to be some disagreement on the tire issue. It appears some mediation may (or may not) be in order, but there are other tire alternatives, as I edited my original comment.

Avons will likely be my next tire and they're about the best alternative Cobra owners have in 15's, but the downside is the expense, at least to us mere mortals. And for the purposes of your bet, they're not drag radials.

I've offered Blitz the Avons in a 2 out of 3 race.

All -- just so you know, this is the tone Dan and I take in all our exchanges. Picking somewhere to eat would be much harsher than this one. It wasn't us trying to verbally kill each other.

SB51 -- I think there's some confusion about what Dan's tires actually are. He has some kind of slick that says (I think) "Goodyear Eagle" on them. But he says they aren't BBs.

Silverback,

Maybe they are just saying billboards aren't good for 1/4 mile drag racing. Perhaps they are good for other application besides dragging.

There are Goodyear vintage ROAD racing slicks for Cobras that are similar in appearance to Billboards. http://rogerkrausracing.com/pages/pricing.html

Click on "Cobra cat". Not sure if this link will work: http://rogerkrausracing.com/racetire...ra+2011cat.pdf

I just watched the vids. I think I've had more commotion driving the cobra to breakfast on Sat AMs!

Bill Boards and Avon's are great all around tires, but they aint drag race tires. Therefore, not matter which one, "they suck" for the purposes of this race.

Ok just finalized bet with Tom at poker game. I'm sticking with my current Goodyear grooved road course slicks and Tom is gonna spot me .2 seconds on each of the 3 passes, I just have to win one still. March 8 Vegas speedway, I gotta start practicing

An empty track to use. That's got to be heaven.

You're a good man, Tommy.
