Dan Tom It's not a race if you are not side by side, if you are not under penalty for starting too soon (red light). The first one to the finish line is the winner regardless of the ET. If it isn't this way, it doesn't matter if you race each other or not. All you will have is ET numbers for each of your cars. The lowest ET doesn't always win. Mark

That's correct. Yesterday, Dan offered me ET rather than off the line with the tree and I took it. That means my risk of blowing the start goes away. Whew.

Tom, if the track is being rented, surely the tree is part of the fee for the starting procedure, why ET only, makes no sense ? The interest factor went from 100 to 0.

I'm not a drag racing pro by any means but if its just ET then why bother racing side by side? Couldn't you each just race in your home city and post the times? Of course, there would have to be an unbiased witness at each place.

Unfortunately I think Dan suffered much more risk in this case. That Kirkham will be much, much harder to launch than the Italia. The more you make it a horse power to weight issue, the more the scales are tipped towards the Kirkham, IMHO.

Tell me
So, if you're not using the tree, how are you going to start:
1. Certified mail
2. Courier pigeon
3. Mental telepathy
4. Smoke signal from the papal residence
5. Arm drop

Even though the drivers still need to be on their game (Blitz more so than Tommy due to the nature of the cars), ET makes it more Cobra vs Ferrari than Blitz vs Tommy and I'm quite ok with that.

Either a tree or an arm drop is cool. We just won't be sweating hitting it exactly, I guess.

Tommy,
The change in rules is a huge advantage to you. With traction control for the launch and auto shifting, this is as close to a "no skill required" race as you can get.
Blitz,
Picking up a second on reaction time was your best shot at a win, since Tommy has to win all three and therefore couldn't take any chances on his starts. Not sure why you made this offer, but since it's done, you need to focus all your practice on getting a good launch with no wheel spin. Without a perfect launch, you have no chance unless the Ferrari breaks.
Kevin
