OK,
True story:
I've got this buddy at work who owns a Unique FIA car. I go over his house to have a look-see at a few details on the car. I get near the front of the car and notice he's off to the side just watching me and snickering. WTF??... Ok, something is funny here. So I start looking at the car anew. Then I catch it: The paint job has 2 ovel blotches on the hood. He sees me looking at it and gives me the "Well?" look and shoulder shrug. So I look at it a little closer and the dim light bulb in my head finally goes bright. I look back at him with a half believing snicker.
I had just figured out those marks are from sweaty boobs! He goes on to tell me how he and his wife got them there!
I laughed so hard I thought I was going to have to sit down! (you have to know this guy, he is a life support system for a penis) So naturally I tell him that he should NEVER wash those off.
Well, about a week later I drive my car over to the local Starbucks. Low and behold, there is Mike's car sitting in the parking lot. I go meet him and grab a cup of coffee. We're sitting there talking when we notice a man (about 65 years old) checking out mike's car. Of course I immediatly have to ask Mike if he washed it yet. "Why, no, I havent" he tells me with a big $#%# eating grin. We head on over to have a chat with the guy.
So there we are, talking about the car all the while we are luring him over to the hood. (the scene of the crime) Well, he's not seeing it. So naturally I start talking paint jobs. Ok, now I've got him on the line. I just start playing it up how proud mike is of his paint and how flawless it is, blah, blah, blah, The guy finally looks at that area of the hood sees it, looks up at mike and I who are now almost in tears. He's like, "what's so funny?" We nod him back over to the blotches. he looks again and now he's studying them like a crossword puzzle.
It didn't take long before he looked up with that expression of understanding. Some things are just universal between car guys I guess.

Last week I had some work done to my septic system. The driver of the pumper truck showed some interest in my car parked in the garage,so I fired her up and let him hear it run. Blipped the throttle a few times and nearly blew him away. The next day another guy came to snake the lines and as he was writing up the bill his phone/Company radio rang , it was the pumper driver asking him if everything was ok. He didn't know I could hear him as I was standing alongside of the truck. He asked the
guy if he had seen my car. The young man replied he had. Then he asked did he start it up for you? I hadn't, the young man answered no. The guy says good thing it'll blow out your ear drums, friggin beautiful car man.

My wife and I were out for a cruise last Sunday. We were stopped at a traffic light at the front of the line. While we were waiting, I hear a woman behind us yelling something. I turn around and see that she is carrying a camera, and finally figure out that she is asking to take a picture.
She had gotten out of the car that she was driving to take our picture. I don't think the people behind her appreciated it very much.
We were able to pull over and she took about a half dozen pictures. Then we were on our way again.
My wife could not get over it!

Yesterday, when I could FINALLY take her out with the temperature all the way up to 40.
I was trying to take some measure of the new heads (got me another 57hp at the wheels), but the street wasn't sticky enough. Anyway, I was sitting at a light, with that deep irregular idle at about 950, and a guy walks out of the gas station next to me and just STARES before getting into the vette that was sitting by the pumps. He pulls onto the cross street, turns left by me, and just HAMMERS it pulling away. (no gravel, though, Hal.)
I just had to laugh out loud. Poor guy, he thought he had something....

Cruised thru Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills a few times, and got a lot of the usual 'thumbs-up' and smiles; on one of the passes, I had this exchange with a group of young, Middle-Eastern women:
"Is your car for sale?"
Me...."Sorry, no. Do you know what kind of car this is?"
"No. But it IS a beautiful car!"
Me...."Thank you!" Then the traffic cleared, and they drove on past, out of my life forever!

Edley, you show off, you.
What ever happened to the cheerleaders you were going to photograph with your Cobra. I would like to see them sprawled across the hood or sitting on you lap inside your car.

That is nothing! Pulled up to a bar the other night in the Cobra. This guy is stagering out. You know the type................ lived there for the last 20 years and this is his first time outside since. Burps loudly and says 'I have a REAL one in a barn'

Shin, I guess football season is over, and they dont do any more cheering events. I will try again if they have spring football, and maybe get some photos then.

Several people ask how my car is running and I have to tell them that it is still about two feet above the garage floor but hopefully It'll be running this summer again.

Pet peeve regarding "recognition"
Don't you just hate it when the guy behind you has no idea what you're driving, so he creeps up slowly and tries to read the little Cobra badge on the back?
Every time this happens, the guy's car keeps getting bigger and bigger in my rear view mirror, and I'm sure he's gonna wind up with his grille in my trunk.
Has anyone else suffered a near heart attack when this happens?

Young lads and a Cobra
Sunday I was working on my car in the garage when I heard this Wow look at that, I looked up and in my drive were three young guys on bicycles maybe 12-14 yrs old. Is that a Cobra, yes, wow. you want to take a look at it? Can we? sure c'mon.
More wow's, this is so cool etc. They walked around the car , looking it over--more wows etc. Asked a few questions. You want to sit in it--Really, yeah really , wow 160(saw the speedo)will it go that fast--Not with me in it---I really don't know. You want to hear it--3 chorus Yes. I fired it up let it rumble for a minute or two, blipped the throttle then shut it down. Wide eyed looks from the the lads. As they left I overheard one young man to his friend saying I want one of those , his friend said I thought you wanted a tricked out Honda Accord like Mikes(an older brother?)--Not any more ricers suck compared to that, even Mikes. And off they went.
Sort of made my afternoon. Very polite young lads with their first look at a Cobra--made an impression I think

True story from the UK (why not) Some years ago, two completely original genuine Cobra race cars had recently been restored, both painted bright red, and were en route to Goodwood for a little light excercise ( The very famous racer GPG4C of Charlie Agg and the ex-Le Mans '63 Cobra of Nigel Hulme) You can imagine the sight and sound of these 2 running in convoy....!! They pulled over the make a quick inspection on one of the cars and were just about to leave when a car passing in the opposite direction slowly rapidly to take it all in, only to be re-ended by the following car whose driver was doing much the same, at a greater speed. The Cobras fled the scene but I would love to have read their insurance claims!

Showed an elder co-worker a picture of my newly acquired 289. He says, "Alright, retro! Nice looking Corvette!"
