Reading the Cobra storys keep me sane enough to realize that we still have to wait a year for the house to get done, and most likely 1 1/2 years for the Cobra Sometime sanity isn't all its cracked up to be

In the 3 1/2 weeks since and 1268 miles I have had my car, I have had waaaaay too many 'recognitions' in my Cobra to even count. Pretty unbelievable and way beyond what I even expected. So, I will offer up the two most vivid and the one that happened today.
#1 - within the first week - Going south on the I-5 headed to Dana Point and I see a pick-up pulling up fast through the cars coming up on the driver side. The guy was two lanes over and I see a shirt flapping out of his passenger side window. I feel them pulling up next to me and the shirt turns out to be the passenger hanging out the window, as best he can with his buddy doing 85+, trying to take pictures of the car..... This is one the 5 freeway, mind you..... crazy with all the cars and speed.
#2 - Driving PCH south in Laguna Beach. Just got through the main beach area and was just hitting all the stop and go lights in south Laguna. I keep hearing a car honk its horn from two or three cars back - wasn;t sure if it was for me or someone was ticked off at somebody else. Anyway, 3 or 4 light later the car pulls alongside me and honks again. I look over and saw 3 of 4 beautiful, just got outta college-looking females. Long story short we kept blabbing through the next 4 or so lights (Nice car/ thanks, do you race it/no, can it fit more than two/ of you, yes).... just fun banter and flirting. Nothing really happened after that, but it fed a few nights of happy Cobra dreaming after that.
Today - Taking my car down to San Diego, on the 5 again. Received a lot of thumbs ups and waves on what is normally an hour and half drive (2 hours 20 mins. today with traffic). I drove over 100 miles and I as pull off the freeway and get closer to my mechanics shop (tweeks on the car and body as well), I hit the first red light. I wait, it turns green and I move forward and CHUG, CHUG...nothing. Start it again and the clutch goes to the floor..... Received a couple of honks, one very loud HA-HA and a lot stares as I pushed it over two lanes and onto a side street. The clutch slave went out... The good news, I was only three blocks from the shop - BUT, not quite the recognition you hope for in a Cobra.
All in all, it has been a fantastic 3 or so weeks. I am driving the car every chance I get..... It is all adding up to alot of smiles, a great tan and whole bunch of fun....

I've seen a lot of the reactions that have been described above. But this one topped it for me. I was parked at the far end of a parking lot under a tree for shade. I look over and there is a guy, probably in his late 50s, backing his Expedition out of a parking spot. He backed across several rows of parking spots to get a better look at the Cobra. I could see him staring as he was backing and backing across the lot. Suddenly I realized he wasn't about to stop. Just as I yelled, "Don't hit that .... !!" he backed right into a tree. His bumper got pushed up 3-4 inches. He got out looking embarassed and walked over to ask about the car before he even looked to see the damage to his own bumper.

Yesterday Cobie and I were cruising on the highway and we noticed a Ford pickup coming up on us fast. When the truck caught up it stopped right to our left and sat there as to get my.... I mean our attention, so being interested in why they came up so fast just to cruise beside us I looked to my left to see a set of bare headlights with the brights on. My gosh, I couldn't react quick enough and Cobie saw them too. I checked on him this morning and he still had the grin on his face.
Whew! Talk about a drive-by.......

From the mouths of babes
So I am out with the car and stop into a local shopping center with a sandwich shop. As I am grabbing the cell phone out of my car a minivan with a mom and a couple of young (guessing 5 and 8 years old) kids pulls up in the space directly in front of me. As I am walking past the van I hear the older of the two boys say "Mommy, when I grow up I want one of those!!!"

My wife & I were eating dinner inside at Wendys. Along came two college guys in black suits, got out of their car and one of them stood back like 15 feet with a camera, the other crouched down along the side of my cobras drivers door, put one hand on the steering wheel, acting like HE.....was driving, while the picture was takin ! I wonder how the picture came out ? LOL !
I always let people sit in the cobra, all they had to do was ask. hehe !

I was sitting at the stop light on the end of a freeway off-ramp, after a rather-spirited run on the freeway, when I looked over at the woman driving the new Mercedes sedan. She was motioning (so I thought) to the rear of my Cobra, or down the freeway at something. I kept looking but didnt see anything, so she rolled down her passenger-side windows, and her two young kids in the backseat were staring at my Cobra with HUGE smiles on their cherubic little faces. So I waved at the little tykes, revved up the Windsor a bit, and calmly drove on my merry way. I looked in my mirror, and the kids were waving until I was out of their sight!

I was over visiting my mechanical mentor and former Dragon Snake "aimer" and Shelby Enterprises engine builder Tony Stoer.
He was impressed.

Last Monday took the cobra to a local Chevy garage where our
company gets truck maintance done. The service managers, "go now that's a car." I got a lot of respect from the Chevy mechanics. After awhile they got on me that "it was to quiet in there , I'd better start it up again."

Was at a birthday party for one of my friends family members, and of course I parked the Cobra at the street end of the driveway, so party-goers, passersby, and drivers all HAD to see the Cobra, in all its glory!
I happened to look out at the Cobra, and there was this middle-aged man looking at the car, and he had three high-school girls with him. I went out and talked to them, and it turns out they are exchange students from Germany, Spain, and Russia. They were driving home, and spotted the Cobra! (natch!)
All three girls said it was a beautiful car, and I asked them if they would like to take turns riding in it, and I would be glad to take them. Their eyes got really big, and the three girls conferred with each other, and somehow the Russian girl was the first to go for a ride.
After the obligatory "Dont burn your legs" speech, and a short lesson on entering the Cobra, we were on our way down the road about a mile, where we got on the freeway for a bit of spirited driving. She didnt say much during the ride, but when she got out, she couldnt stop smiling and talking to her friends.
The German girl was next, and she was a lot more vocal in expressing her feelings as we tooled down to the freeway, and she said how much she wanted one of these cars.
But the most vocal, LOUDEST one was the Spanish girl, who kept up a good car-themed commentary on our whole trip, including a few "YA-HOOs" as we toodled down the freeway!
After all three had their rides, they thanked me ever so much, and the man stuffed a $20 bill into my pocket, for "giving these girls the thrill of their lives!"

Edley,
You got to take three presumably attractive young females for a ride in your Cobra and got paid to do so? WOW! What luck. I love it when women are interested in the car sport. Notice the big grin on the third one?

Sunday before last...my son and I took the car over to Shelbyville (yes, Shelbyville) for supper. When we came out of the restaurant, a young girl was eyeballing the car at close range- really going over it. She asked if it was OK if she took a picture of it with her camera phone because her boyfriend was crazy about "these cars." I told her to hop in and we'd take her picture in the car. She said, "NO WAY, he'd be SO jealous." I convinced her to hop in and my son took a couple pictures of her. She went away joyously, still babbling about how envious her boyfriend was going to be. Makes it all worth it, doesn't it?

Yesterday I took my Cobra out for a little joy ride (my Cobra is still in the just done assembly stages… black primer etc…. see gallery). I decide to go over to a friend’s house in the neighborhood right next to mine to show him. While waiting to make a left turn into the neighborhood, an Expedition traveling in the opposite direction pulled in infront of me. All of a sudden three of the four windows open up with three young boys hanging out (about 10 years old) yelling “Nice Car, That’s awesome” and giving me the thumbs up. It was the first response other then people just pointing and honking. Felt good.

I am truly amazed. Driving the "beast" is fun enough, but to have this stuff happen EVERY SINGLE TIME I go out is incredible. The day I passed inspection I drove 261 miles to Mass. coast. Countless, countless I say, women, men, kids, stare and give the thumbs up. At one point, a new Carera passed, then slowed. Gave me the look over and then a thumbs up. A guy in what I think was a maserati or ferrari going the other way on a local road did a double take and in the mirror, I could see the arm and fist held high. On the way home I passed a "bevy" of antique and classics in CT obviously on the way back from a show. Even the guy in the 64 vette coupe smiled as I slid by. No kidding. I love this stuff.
Now, as far as dating goes...................OH YEAH.
