A bloke needs a shed

The smaller of my 2 sheds is 13 x 10 x 6m.

About 8 cars worth but with a horse float, numerous trailers and other sh*t only room for 1 Cobra

2 of us put it up in a week or so.

Just a big mecano set, renting a scissor lift made standing the trusses and sheeting it a breeze. Saved us a couple of grand in installation costs.

A clearspan shed as I need room to move cars around. They don't have good turning circles!. I have put a fire sprinkler system inside as well as outside too. Fun during the summer with the kids when it stinking hot as there's nothing inside yet, so you turn them on and go running around through this fine mist!!!.

The other existing shed is 16 x 12M and that has my tools etc.... and will have a hoist at some stage.

When looking a build my shed everyone said to always propose a shed much larger than you want was they will always make you reduce it.

Buggers approved the size, 18m 15m


But it doesn't take long before its all full

Council came out here and said that to me, as they were a bit sus as to what I was going to be doing with it. This was when they didn't want it in the easier and cheaper place to put it, no they wanted it in the more expensive place to put it as I needed retaining walls etc...... just to save a few trees.

I just said that I needed it this size and no smaller. In the end we had a compromise, they got the shed in a new location I got to keep the size , after all, I do live on the edge of town, semi rural more or less and there's shed everywhere for farming equipment.

Thanks Mike and TL, I spoke to Chris at Trusteel and they're pretty reasonable on price for a 12x12x3m raised (American) barn at about 30k with motorised roller door, one PA door and a few windows, etc. Concrete slab is ridiculous though - anyone got a contact?

My concrete was done through trusteel. Came in at $81sqm incl footings

Getting some other concreting done $85sqm. F72 mesh 100mm thick.

Trusteel did the footings.

My slab was done by a local bloke and came in at about $60 per sq meter. F72 mesh, 32MPA and 6" thick. The price was good but the surface finish wasn't as good as I would have liked tough.

I'm getting the exposed Agg driveway for about $80 per sq meter. 5" thick with F72

Thanks guys. Does that include removing 6" of soil or do they just pour 6" up inside the walls? Trusteel said the wall cladding is usually dropped below ground level a few inches.

Trusteel needed the site scraped and level and a layer of crushed rock in before they start. I got a local bobcat bloke to come in and scrape the site. 4 hours for $320 is about the going rate. I got about 10M of crushed rock in and he spread that over the site and leveled it.

For this shed I went up rather than digging it in. With my old shed I dug it out for the slab but it meant the shed was prone to getting some water in there if the strip drain out front got blocked.

The new slab was poured inside the shed but I had a vermin strip attached to the bottom edge of the wall cladding. The slab was boxed against this and filled in behind it. The advantage is that you can easily remove and replace a sheet of tin without busting the concrete (Just as well since I snagged the side of the shed with the bucket on the tractor ). On the old shed I had the bottom edge of the tin sunk into the concrete. This made a good seal but after 10 years or so it was showing some signs of rust on the bottom. When I extended it was a pain to join the cladding up too.

We've had 4 pours down now. One left to go.

The area in front to the shed doors was a big one and they did that Tuesday morning. Tomorrow the'll do the rest of the driveway.

The section in front of the shed doors has been pressure washed to espose the agregate but still needs to be acid etched and sealed. It doesn't look that great untill it's etched and sealed.



They did the pour in front of the garage doors this morning. They spray it with a chemical that stops the top layer of cement from going off and then cover it with plastic so it doesn't dry out so quick. Tomorrow morning they will pressure wash it before doing the next pour.



One of the sections they did earlier they have etched, washed and put one coat of sealer on it. It gives us a good idea how the finished surface will look. Another coat of sealer will bring the gloss up a bit more and it should look good.

The last of the concrete went in on Friday. They washed it Saturday and then acid washed it yesterday. They are back today putting the sealer on.



We should be able to drive on it this weekend. Hooray!

It was nice of it to try and colour co-ordinate for the pic.

Part of me wants the rain because the house tank is near empty but a big part of me want it to stay away at least till the sealing is all finished and dry.

wow thats a big area. Looks great. The only time I (partly) regret exposed agg is when the kids fall over, its not good on bare knees!

That thought has crossed my mind on several occasions. I figure stencilled concrete is probably not much better. The gravel and mud that was there before was definitely worse.
