A little late for you Jeff, but for straight cuts, try using a table saw or a Skil type saw with a straight edge. Use a carbide blade. This goes super quick and accurate. You can polish the edge with a file or belt sander, or just use "as cut". You can cut aluminum that is several inches thick with a carbide blade. Sheets are a breeze. Use hearing and eye protection as the "sawdust" goes everywhere. Just as in wood, more teeth gives a better cut. Hand work is for odd shapes. If you have good patterns, you can knock these out very fast.

Looks great Jeff! Do have provisions for a regular windshield or are you going to be doing the Ken Miles look with the goggles and helmet on every trip?

Adding a new voltage regulator as the 50yr old one may not be operational

May have found my issue?

Old regulator was a D4AF
New regulator is a C5AF
Alternator C5AF

Need to start up once freezing rain opens an opportunity

Hope it works out! I took mine out for a last ditch spin, this morning. Trying to snow now....

The old regulators say not to use solid state ignition systems. Anyone know why?

I have all old stuff, not new.
To answer that question, no idea?

Did not solve the issue.
Ahhhh.
Frustrating

CompClassics 11-02-2014 11:02 AM

The old regulators cause voltage spikes that can damage solid state electronics.

Did you have the alt tested?

krausewich 11-02-2014 02:40 PM

Hi Jeff,
Are all of your grounds set up well, direct to metal on frame?

MK.

Alternator pulley size?

Ive found with my hipo the large pulley doesnt get the alternator spinning fast enough on short drives.

Ok,

All great questions....

Checked grounds, so far all checks out
Whether idle or at 70mph down the highway no charge

Mike Pack mentioned that the dash indicator has to be set correctly and its critical to the running of the system. Will check that tonight as it is direct to the "I" on the VG.

Mike Thank you..................... old electronics .......

With Mike's help........

Looks like I need to attaché the VR to the indicator light then connect it to "Run" on the ignition switch.

Also found an old diagram showing that..

Guess I will try to get this done today. Wish me luck :o

Auto wiring is like voodoo for me! I wish it was as easy as house wiring!
