Barn find car........

Scott427 12-16-2014 04:57 PM

Thanks,
they look kind of goofy don't they?
I like the low look myself, I guess that's why I seem to be drawn to the big block cars.

Clayboy 12-16-2014 05:19 PM

Thanks for the lesson Jeff.

Nice view of difference.

So are you going for the Dragon Snake drag car stance? Because they had the front way up like that for weight transfer at launch.

LMH 12-16-2014 07:27 PM

Your car looks awesome Jeff but for me, this is beyond beautiful!

Tom

I am not.
The wheel has 2" travel with 1/2" to spare.
This is normal.

Maybe I should have stayed with 427.

Here's a neat little one page summary of the build.

Thanks for the link Nick. A Readers Digest version of an amazing build.

Unreal! I am flattered......... :o

Unreal.... Phew.....

It really looks more extreme in photos. Just as the cars are a lot smaller, in person. Most of these photos look to be shot from a few inches off the ground.
The 427 cars are a little more "refined", sure. However, it's the little raw, Grunty 289 cars the zipped through the corners & ate up those Ferraris, so that you could have your mantle piece. Respect due... ;-).

I agree that those that have not experienced a 289 first hand think pictured stance is off. I get it as most 99% of reps are 427.

Car is now in storage. Dropped off today.
April 1st it comes home.

Found Girling rear calipers. Will post pics once cleaned up.

Winter is here.

Found some nice rebuildable "Girling" rear calipers with ebrake mechanism and pads.

These are steel 3-piston type which were used on the 289 cars.
If I can get the right disc formy wheel hat may add in the spring 2015

rsk289 12-21-2014 03:30 PM

They look great when they're cleaned up:

Roger

Wow they do.
Where did you get them done?

LMH 12-21-2014 05:51 PM

Girling 12/3's... Nice find!

Big Redd Calipers - but they're in the UK, sorry

CompClassics 12-22-2014 05:43 PM

They are not difficult to rebuild. Stainless steel pistons, seal & boot kits and cadmium plating.
