Thanks for the info. Unbelievable how helpful everyone is on this thread!
I already have new clamps and a piece of Stainless steel. I think I will try to cut and bend new tabs and then try out my welding skills. I always say that when the planets are aligned and the sun is shining . . . . that welde can make a beautiful weld. . . . but most of the time it looks like I threw chicken $hit at the barn wall. Clamps are cheap and trying is fun.

OK, here you go:
"Turbolift" brand gas struts part number 819-6470 snapped right onto the old ball ends (the NAPA guy already smiles when he sees me coming).

Great.
Just finished installing a new fan belt and one bad idler pulley.
DOn't know if I should try to fix the two bad muffler (sidepipe) screw clamps that are broken (make new ones) or just leave the guards off for now. Looks good without them but I am afraid my wife will burn her leg getting out. I also discovered that I can reach the muffler while seated in the car!

Hi PM,

Congratulations on your new Excal Cobra. I've had mine for 10 years and have put nearly 30,000 miles on it with almost no problems, except for the terrible exhaust system, which you will figure out soon enough. Great rider and draws lots of attention. Keep the Excal badges on it. An Excalibur Cobra is much more intetersting than just another Cobra replica.

You can get replacement clamps for the heat shields at Finish Line on the web. Pretty reasonable. Lots of other cobra parts there too that fit just fine, like glass wing windows to replace the plastic ones and replacement sun visors. If you need to identify specific parts, just post the question here and someone will have an answer for you.

Doug

I just did a few weeks ago. As soon as I get home tonight, I will send you the NAPA part number. The pair I bought just snapped onto the existing ball studs.

Also no air conditioning option,,,,
It seems to me that a lot of the Excals without the AC option DID come with the evaporator factory installed anyway. THAT part is a major pain in the butt to install AFTER the car is built. So it was a good factory idea to equip most, if not all, Excals with at least that part. IF it's there, it greatly simplifies the addition of an AC compressor and condensor because 80% of the work (the Evap) is all ready done.

Evap install would include:
Vents and fan. You could look under the passenger side dash to see if an Evap is installed.

I owned Excal #33 before selling to Mitch, it had the Evap installed from factory, but no AC option. It also rode like a truck, I tried changing shocks and springs but to no avail. Hit a bump and it would throw your back out of whack.

Smile New Excalibur Cobra Owner

Hi Guys, I am new at this. Just bought # 128 Orange with black stripes, 5.0 HO. Had the car shipped from Ohio. Any info. on the cars history would be great. No manual or build info with car. The car is a five speed with air and has a Hella security system. Where does one find another keychain wand to disable the security system in order to start the car ? My email is frith01@msn.com here in Virginia.

Default Info

rrudd,
Welcome, glad 128 is in good hands in Virginia. Sent you an email with some info and registry.

The news on the Hella system is not good. Best hope is to appeal to folks on this forum for another operating probe and use of a programing probe or to figure out how to remove it. No help from Hella is likely as I've been that route.

Mike

Default Top bows

Ok, I've owned my Ex for 3 years. Delivery from Reno was unremarkable. No noticeable damage, all necessary parts received - except one. When I finally got around to checking out the top (about 6 months ago), no bows.

Does anyone know where I might find bows that fit? Finish Line, other cobras (CRII for example)? Or will I have to have them manufactured? If so could any of you give me the specs for your bows?

Thanks,

Jim

Default Top Bows

Jim,
Since our cars are wider, I'd think the tops and bows are wider as well. Can't be certain as the windshields are the same. A set of bows for a Classic Roadster II should be the same since it has the same basic dimensions. You might try Double Venom (Ed Combs) to see if he has any leads. You can locate him on the CR II forum on this site. Let me know what you find out.

Default #103 on eBay

I would think this has to be one of the first to be sold to the public:

Blue with stripes, titled as '93 model. Interesting car.

Hi tom, this is Hasan from Istabul Turkey. I have a 1994 Excalibur Cobra here but the vin number is not Excalibur as Excalişbur is not a registerde brand in Turkey as ı have Chevrolet Corvette mechanicals it is registered as Corvette Stingray in Turkey. It is bigger than a Cobra, has much more leg room; I think 6.5 inches longer and about 4 inches breiter. If ytou want to register my Cobra I can gladly send you photos of if you give me your email. My email is hinsel@tnn.net . I have a tonneau cover, side curtains, but no hood. can you tell me where I can get a complete soft top.
Best wishes,
Hasan

Hasan,
I have the registry now as Tom is busy with other projects for the time being. I would be glad to add your car to the registry and send you a complete copy. If you will look at the outside of the frame in front of the right front suspension you will find the VIN number stamped in the metal. It should also have this number on the driver's side door on a label fixed there. It may have been removed when imported into Turkey, but the VIN on the frame is difficult to destroy or cover up. You can contact me at mduke8@gmail.com with the VIN information, more details on your car (such as how long you have had it and any ownership history you have on it, photos and details on how it came to have the GM motor).

The top is difficult. Since the cars are no longer made, the source of the tops is not known. Classic Roadster II used the same top, but they are no longer making their car or selling parts. There is faint hope the legal problems of CR II will be settled and they will be back in business. Until then, if ever, you can try looking at the CR II forum here on Club Cobra and posting a message asking if any of the CR II owners have one for sale. I have seen one or two change hands in the past three years. The factory cost was about $900 as I recall. Best wishes on finding one. DV or Double Venom (Ed Combs) on that forum is a great source for CR II parts and info. He might be able to give you some leads in your hunt for a top.

Ok, finally getting around to getting rid of the smog stuff. Don Scott is mentioned quite a few times with his headers/pipes that will work on Excals. Is he still around? I saw some posts from '09 that said he's no longer in business. Anyone have any info on this subject?

Default Headers/Exhaust

Birdwatcher II,
I'd try contacting Double Venom (Ed Combs) on the Classic Roadster Forum of this site (CRII). He has made headers before and I think he has fixtures to help keep them accurate and reasonable. Not sure if he can help on the rest of the exhaust or not, but he will probably be able to steer you in the right direction. Don Adams is not currently involved with Cobras.
