I have assolutely no doubts what a GT would do to a Cobra at the track...maybe even yours.

But it's all a lot of fun. The arguments going around in circles year after year. Evan desperately hanging onto the registry while ignoring a federal judge's ruling; which called the continuation cobras 'replicas' and 'kits'. Others bringing up the original vs real vs replica over and over. It would be great if we could all meet in a bar somewhere and have this discussion live with lots of beer, whiskey, and peanuts.
Guys enjoy your rides. However don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.

Explaining the term would involve very politically incorrect terminology these days and with NASA monitoring our emails and posts I am not that brave.
All in good fun though, and mostly targeted at REAL 1 and his obsession with replica Cobra's. Since he has a real GT and A replica Cobra I was thinking this might cause a dilemma for him but I underestimated his tenacity.

It's all good, however NASA ws a front well sort of. Use what term you like cable, fiber optic, copper, ANY and ALL signals transmitted through all these mediums and signals through the airwaves are captured and recorded. and it ain't NASA. Just think how long the stealth fighter was hidden. I would say there's about a 25 year curve before some technology surfaces into the public domain. Some tech is literally light years away but just recently some is starting to surface.

We have huge cavernous spaces throughout the world(for the youngsters think raccoon cities) that we have been making for decades. We have equipment that literally melts the rock without the customary drilling and blasting. Large complexes are connected by high speed connections. This tech is starting to surface and talk of it is more common.

I won't go into how we are all suckers still using gasoline to fuel our vehicles.

No pissing contest here on my part. I just keep pointing to the Registry. Just pointing to the Registry definitions based on the facts that developed in the past 15 years. Clearly have things changed in the time since the originals were last produced. Clearly the bias here is clear voiced nearly completely by non Shelby owners and by those with original cars.

Why it is such an issue for them is beyond me. They clearly have their own axe to grind. Owners of original cars here I guess want their cars to the only Cobras recognized. Owners of replicas or kits as defined by the Registry perhaps out of envy or sour grapes get pleasure out of knocking and trying to bring down what they don't have.

If your own personal opinion is the tired and hackyned phrase "if it wasn't made in the 60's its not an "authentic"/genuine/real (use adjective of choice) Cobra thats fine. That's your personal and meaningless opinion to which you are absolutely entitled. I'm not trying to disabuse you of letting the official definitions and recognition by SAAC interfere with your opinion. You are clearly more well versed and knowledgable than those compiling the current edition of the World Registry. Carry on gentlemen.

CSX3170: No dilemma at all. Both are recognized in the Registry as genuine items for what they purport to be. Shelby Cobras of the continuation series and Ford GTs.

Paul F: I haven't read the full text of the opinion but even if the Federal Judge did say the Continuation series are replicas, this technically is correct based on the dictionary definition of replica or kit cars since and they were sold at one point in a kit to the end owner and even if shipped to dealers because of DOT regs can't be shipped as a completed vehicle. However, the Registry analyzyes how the term "replica" and "kit" have been misused in the public domain and misapplied by the public to all these cars except for the originals. I can understand why the judge might use those terms. I doubt he used those terms to set the definition of what these cars are and how they should be recognized since the issue in that case was trade dress and trade mark issues. I don't recall the issue of what is to be considered a genuine or real Cobra being at issue. Don't think it was. The issue as I recall was whether others besides Shelby could manufacture a car with the shape of Cobras and use the marks associated with them and name. Further, I doubt the Federal judge was an expert in these matters and I don't think he was looking to set the definitions of what is and is not a genuine Cobra. This issue I don't believe was before him.

Plus the fact that you are looking to rely on and cling to some passing dicta in an opinion you say appears in a decision (was it even a published decision setting precedent?) as opposed to a legal holding in an age old Federal opinion confirms my statement that had the Registry defined the Continuation Series as "replicas" and/or "kits" you and the other detractors would be "all over it" and consider the issue settled. However, since it didn't work out the way you guys wanted in the new Registry the sore losers continue the argument based on their own personal views.

Knocking the Continuation Series will not make your original more valuable nor will it make replicas/kits more valuable. Recognizing Continuation Cobras as authentic Cobras will not detract from your cars either whether original or replica (as defined in the registry). What it will accomplish is stopping you from looking petty and/or like you are suffering from sour grapes.

OnyxRider, I keep it simple, if the car wasn't built between '62 and '67 it's a copy. All this banter about perceived worth is amusing, nothing more than "my forgery is better than yours", that is the axe being ground here.

Yes, of course Evan. Judges are always careless when choosing words in a judgement. After all they are only setting precedence and interpreting federal law. So one is free to assume which words a judge chose carefully and which he really meant.

Hang on to the registry Even. Hang on for dear life.

[edit] I don't care about any of this stuff. I find it very entertaining that you spend so much time defending your position. I wonder why it is so important to you. What is so important about this recognition of the definition of the car? It seems to be a tremendous amount of energy spent on such an insignificant topic.

Thumbs down Meh.

REAL1 isn't a judge. Maybe he slept in a Holiday Inn last night. And the night before, too.

Sigmund Freud would find definition for REAL1's perspectives. He would find them for ours, too. How they would be received by either party is speculation.

But I'm betting that one party would be more aggrieved than the other

Investments, opinions, perspectives come and go. So does life.

Just ask ole CS....when you get the opportunity.

Hey Paul: It's important since this is a public forum and I would think many come here to read about these cars for various reasons. I think it is important that people understand how the official World Registry defines the new Cobras/Shelbys. No one is operating under the illusion that they are "REAL" Cobras so as to confuse them or perpetrate them as originals. I get it and I get the point most are making her.

My point is to simply point out that the current generation of Cobras are authentic Cobras just not the original ones and officially recognized as so. This way when people here read the efforts to demean the Continuation series they will see that factually the detractors are incorrect and there is published official support for the recognition of the current crop of Cobras.

No one is trying to demean the originals. They are clearly the brass ring and rightfully so.

Its just that a little respect would be nice.

I'm not hanging on to the Registry for dear life. Its just there as the leading authority and undercuts all the demeaning and undercutting statements here and those coming to this forum should know that.

BTW my dad was a Federal Judge. Does that count??

I don't see it as harsh, truth is, we who love these style cars will ( die out ) someday. And only those who've got lots of money and nothing more to do with it will own the cars ( Cobras ) built in the 60's. Unless you may be one of the lucky ones that your dad may have passed it down.

Interest in car style changes as years go by for people I think. As for me, I couldn't give a fats rats behind about anything from the 40's or before. And will only take a second look at a T-bird, or Vett from the 50's. Now,, 60's through early 70's becomes a different story. And today, ask a teen what their dream car would be to own, even if mom and dad are buying it for them. Think the Cobra would be one of their top 5 picks?

Back to the topic,, alum. body Shelby cont. Going to check on my fiberglass (replica) Cobra now. Thinking it may not look close enough to even be called that.

To dust we shall return.

I have Cobra friends that have 80K plus in their home built Cobras..........It is their creation. 700HP, huge Wilwoods, etc. The process of constructing one to their specific requirements is more important than the finished product. I give them and their Cobras the utmost respect. My CSX roller came with SA's idea of what shocks, brakes, steering, fuel cell were the best ?? not mine. My roller price was competitive for the time. Today I would purchase a Kirkham ( though an AL body is not my first chose ). However having the chance to meet McCluskey would be a plus for AL. Hillbank has a Superformance for $92K. I do not have that much in my car. The auction statement is correct in the fact that there are many bidders who do not do their research.........That FFR was was not close to the build quality of the Superformance..........Cheers
